Why do we sing at Mass? What does the Church teach about music at Mass?
How do we pick music for Mass? What kind of music belongs at different parts
of the Mass? What makes for a good introduction to a hymn? Why do we sing
acclamations at Mass? What’s my role as a musician? What’s a psalm and why
is it so important?
Get answers to these and other questions at this day long, practical workshop
that will help you understand your role as a parish musician and serve your
parish better. It will be held in three different deaneries on three different
Deanery 1 & 4: McLennan: Saturday, May 6, 2017, 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Workshop leader Bernadette Gasslein is an experienced parish musician, a
well-known liturgist and an author of several books designed to help parish
ministers understand the Mass better. She lives in Edmonton and has gotten
to know our Archdiocese because of her family connections here. She has
degrees in music and theology, and edits the journal Worship, which is
published by the Benedictine monks of Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville,
