The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops have released today, Feb. 8th, four letters on reconciliation with the Indigenous Peoples of Canada – addressed to the First Nations, the Métis, the Inuit, and the People of God. These letters detail the work being done to better respond to the painful legacy of residential schools and the collective desire of the bishops of Canada to build upon last year’s historic papal visit and continue working towards renewed and strengthened relations with Indigenous Peoples.
Archbishop Gerard Pettipas, CSsR has written his own pastoral letters to go with each of these addresses, and these will be sent to the 18 First Nations communities and four Métis settlements in the archdiocese, as well as a letter addressed to all Catholics in our region and to local elected officials.
