In our 2021-2022 activity calendar, the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is introducing “Pastoral Ministry Month.” The beauty of pastoral ministry is availability and to meet people where they are. How are we able to do this in a post-pandemic world with fewer people returning to Church or recommitting themselves or finding replacement for ministry veterans? A good place to start is looking inward – to appreciate, encourage and strengthen those who dedicate and commit their time, talents, gifts, and resources in building up the community. A scriptural passage that speaks to us about this is First Thessalonians 5:11. It says, “Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.” These past months have been challenging for everyone. Hence, ministry revival and re-strengthening is urgent as we strive to serve God’s people once again.

As medium to reach out to all ministry leaders and volunteers in the Archdiocese of Grouard McLennan, the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis introduced a month-long program dedicated to pastoral ministry. Our goal is threefold: Gratitude Charism Collaboration. To do this, our theme for this year’s program is “The Joy of Serving and Learning Together.” There is so much to learn from life and the recent happenings around Canada and the Church. Regardless of the challenges of today, the joy of Christian service is to be ONE with those we serve. Jesus calls us to be with HIM, to learn from HIM, and to serve HIM in our brothers and sisters everywhere.

The threefold goals address those who do ministry – “who we are” and “what we do. Here is the outline:

PART ONE: 6 Sets of Deanery /School District Ministry Retreats (October 16 November 20, 2021- 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon)

The retreat theme is: The Joy of Learning and Sharing Together. There will be 6 sets of retreats, one at each deanery and the catholic school districts in the Archdiocese. One of the six will accommodate “in-person” attendance and the others virtually. Participation is free for all parish/school ministry leaders and volunteers. Also, new and aspiring ministry volunteers are welcome.

PART TWO: Ministry Leaders’ Conference Going the Distance .” November 15, 2021 – 6.30 PM to 8.30 PM)

This is the coming together of all ministry leaders and volunteers in the Archdiocese of Grouard McLennan. We have arranged two amazing guest speakers for this Conference: Most Rev. Stephen Hero (Bishop of Prince Albert) and Sr. Angela Marie Castellani, FSE (Archdiocese of Vancouver). This is a virtual Conference and participation is free – send us an email to receive the Zoom link and prayers for the Conference.

PART THREE: Gratitude and Renewal of Ministry Commitments Sunday November 14, 2021
This will take place in parishes and station churches.

Collectively as one Church, all those in different ministries, and the leaders of lay movements will be invited by the parish priest to renew ministry service to God. The rite of ministry (re)commissioning prayers/blessings will be used. Special thanks and prayers will be offered to all ministry leaders and volunteers with emphasis on parish/school ministry veterans.

In the spirit of unity, let us offer prayers of thanksgiving and blessing for ministry leaders and volunteers in the parishes and schools across the Archdiocese. Blessings to you all.
