We are beginning the countdown to the archdiocesan Congress, Church Alive!, which will be held in Peace River between April 15 and 18, 2015. In December 2013, Archbishop Pettipas invited every Catholic in the Archdiocese to complete a survey, asking them to describe their experiences in their parish and the Archdiocese. The responses were collated and the details are in the 2014 Survey Results report. In May 2014, members of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council reviewed the results with His Grace and six pastoral goals were identified: good liturgy, good teaching, community, ministry, communication, and accountability. To help give a framework for those goals, in August 2014, Archbishop Pettipas called together representatives from the five deaneries to join a process that culminated in a Vision Statement and a Mission Statement for the Archdiocese. Our Mission:
Empowering God’s people to grow in holiness through faith, hope and love.
Church alive: celebrating and living our Catholic faith.
In November 2014, each deanery has been asked to gather with the Archbishop, to brainstorm strategies that will help meet those six goals and contribute to fulfilling the mission and vision of the Archdiocese. [When those meetings are completed, the ideas and suggestions will be compiled and posted here.] If you are not able to attend the meeting in your deanery, you can still provide your strategy suggestions for one or more of the six goals. Read the White Paper on Goals of the Pastoral Plan and send your ideas to Lauri Friesen (by e-mail, to firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail, to 10301 102 Street, Grande Prairie T8V 2W2).
Check out the Congress agenda and/or read what delegates will be discussing at the Congress in the Goals and Strategies Working Document – Final document.
Archbishop Pettipas has composed a Prayer for Church Alive, for the work and delegates of the Congress. We hope you will pray for us, now and until the work is done!
